The Shed

Hello from Noosa! Sad to leave our friends and bowling club in Surfers we headed up to Brisbane on the Greyhound. Half way to Brisbane we suffered a flat tire. The bus driver could not fix it so we drove for 1.5 hours with a completely flat tire. Once we got to Brisbane we found a hostel that we were a bit hesitant to go to at first but it turned out to be the nicest/cleanest hostel thus far. It had satelite tv - so we found ourselves watching NHL hockey and NBA basketball one night! It made us feel close to home. The first day in Brisbane we toured the city and booked some tours. The second day in the city was a GREAT day. We got up and headed to the Koala sanctuary. There we were able to hold a Koala - just like Kat did. Kira's Koala fell asleep on her and when Claire went to hold hers....it pooped. We have great pictures from that. Next up was feeding the Kangaroo's. There was a field filled with kangaroo's and you could walk up to them and they would eat right from your hand. You could pet them and just basically hang out with them. Kira and Claire were in heaven. There were also a few emu's that proved to be much more aggressive than the kangaroo's. On numerous occasions we were chased by these giant birds wanting the roo food. All in all a grrrrrreat day. After 3 days in Brisbane we headed up to Noosa where we are right now. We got a hostel room and met 2 girls from the UK...they met playing univeristy basketball - basically had the same story as Kira and I! First day in Noosa we met some people from asutralia and they treated us to a 'true australian BBQ'. We hung out in a shed and watched a rugby game on a big screen projector and had a big BBQ. They were ex-backpackers, and our presence allowed them to reminisce on their good old days! They pulled out the photo albums and everything - they reminded us of orpin. haha. The next day we got up bright and early and went to our surfing lessons! We had great weather. Great fun and huge bails. haha. Kira and I were both able to stand up on our boards by the end of it. But wow, it's tough. The wave were relentless and dominated us. We are quite sore today but are about to go back out and improve our rookie skills. It is sooooo much fun. Tomorrow we head up to Rainbow beach and prepare for our Fraser Island 4X4 self guided tour. Life is good. We will write back when the Fraser Island tour is finished.
