Happy freaking new year 2008!
What a great amount of fun we have had...Sheila arrived. That pretty much sums it up well.
We partied hard in Sydney the night before Sheila's arrival and barely made it to the airport in time. Hungover and tired, we were lucky as her flight was delayed. The reunion was great. We had letters that spelled out SHEILA ready for her arrival.
Sheila's friend Georgina was at the airport as well and drove us back to her amazing abode. We went to bondi beach for the day and tanned in the sun. We had a lot of trouble finding accommadation in sydney as it is xmas/newyears and apparently that means everywhere (literally) gets boooked. Claire Kat nad Kira stayed in a hostel on bondi for the night and sheila stayed with georgina. Sydney was insane. Packed to the brim. So in this type of hectic situation most people would freak out and try their best to find a place to stay. We chilled on beaches and in parks and just went with whatever happened. So far it has worked well. We scored a deal with a giant apartment downtown sydney. Claire and kat signed in and went upstairs to investigate. 10th floor. Walk in, GIANT apartment hotel room..queen size bed, couch with pull out bed, tv, small kitchen and giant bathroom. So we then went downstairs and snuck in Kir and Sheila. Cheap accommadation, it was only 150 a night...devided by 4. equales awesome.
The sneak in has been successfull so far at least in Sydney. There really was no other option anwyays, as it was new years approaching.
We went shopping the next day, after Kat kira and claire went out on the town (again). We spent some good money at a shop called "Supré" which includes cheap dresses in a variety of neon colours. Cliare bought leggings. And a billabong shirtdress. She is officially stylish.
The next day we got picked up by Kath, Sheilas friend from Camp..and went to a small beach in a rich part of Sydney. We tanned for most the morning and saw a lot of giant yachts preparing for the new years festivities. Sheila got a little overheated and we were all hungry so we went and had a nice lunch together and bought some alcohol for that nights partying.
Now new years was interesting. We had no accommodation for that evening. Everyone but us was concerned. We bought a 4 litre box of wine (goon) and 2 giant bottles of "Passion Pop" champagne. We drank one before 5pm. The last one was opened at 12:10am that night. Kath tried to find us somewhere to stay, but literally everywhere was booked, or a ridiculous price. So we decided to be homelesss. This was possibly the greatest idea we have ever had.
Kath dropped us off at Georgina's house where we dropped our stuff off and got ready for the nights festivities. Claire wore a dress. actually we all wore dresses. Epic. We felt so dressed up and yet were so underdressed compared to the rest of Sydney.
So. We were released into the wild.
We walked to the subway and went down to darling harbour. We had a nice meal at an outdoor restaurant and headed to the rocks(a place in darling harbour, looks out on the bridge). We found a good spot right up close to the bridge. We waited. Yelled. And drank. The family fireworks were at 9pm, pretty weak. We kept drinking. Claire and Sheila went to get drinks. Jagerbombs. We drank. Then Kat and Claire went and got beer. We drank. Claire had to pee at one point but the cops were not letting people back into the section we were in so Claire tried to pee in a bush, couldn't. Public. Had to hold it.
Explosions began...after we counted down balls. Literally the entire bridge exploded with fireworks and epic music. There are no words. You'll have to see the pictures and videos. You could probably youtube it actually. It was mind blowing.
Long story short, we got to bondi beach around 430am to watch the sunrise at 5. We were not alone, everyone seemed to be homeless like us. We watched a beautiful sunrise on the beach and ended up napping for an hour. We got up and had some water and food and headed back to Georginas.
She wasn't there, but her parents let us in and we swam in the pool with their dog Charlie and collected our things. We got on a bus to Newcastle, stayed in a Formula 1 hotel. Georgina invited us up to her farm in Willowtree. It was a beautiful place with a pool that looked out on mountains and olive trees. The pool was one of those pools where the water drops off the edge like you're swimming over a cliff. It was a relaxing few days at a beautiful cottage home. We are now in Newcastle awaiting a bus to Byron Bay tomorrow. We are hoping to get some employment there, learn to surf and relax on the beach.
Hope you all had a great new year!
Love Kat Kira Claire and SHEILA!
