We took a 13 hour bus ride to Melbourne from Sydney with the bus driver Russ. This man made our journey amazing. Claire and Russ became good friends. When he found out we were from Canada (Where is Canada?) he harassed us for 9 hours straight. Beckoning us to sing karaoke and playing one of the travellers random CD's. The first song on this CD was Daft Punk, and then we knew there would be great things in our future. It was a sign. Claire then went through Russ's bag (after being asked) to find a tape of either ABBA (not original ABBA but the synthesized version) and Elvis. We blasted Elvis - "I can't help falling in love with you" into the sunset (literally).
We arrived in Melbourne (aka Batmania), not knowing where we were or where to stay. Pretty much all hostels were booked, but we finally found one called "Pint on Punt" which is located above a bar. We got a private room for the 3 of us. After such a long day with Russ, we drank some wine and proceeded to the bar below. After singing a free-style version of Sisqo's "Thong Song" for 5 people in the bar, we called it a night.
DECEMBER 13th - THE GREATEST DAY OF OUR LIVES - Daft Punk
Okay. We walk out of our hostel and head to the beach. Tanned, listened to Daft, Tragically Hip and ran in the ocean. We ate fresh salad on the sidestreet and headed to town. We explored downtown Melbourne (great great city) and headed home to get ready for our concert.
This is where things get amazing.
and i mean amazing
no...amazinger.
After Claire lost her tickets to the show, she sprinted 20minutes to print them out again. Came back sweating, we drank some energy drinks and ran to the tram. On the tram we made friends.
Kira: "WHO'S GOING TO DAFT?" <-aggressively
"DOES ANYONE NEED A TICKET?" as Claire had an extra one. "How much?"
Kat and Claire think. Kat says "180 dollars?"
Response: "BOOOOOOOOO YOU'RE SCALPERS"
Awkward..got heckled about being from Canada the rest of the journey to the venue.
Finally we get off to the Park in which Daft Punk and friends were playing. We followed the bass and started running. Scalping tickets outside of the venue. Successfully selling and profiting 25 dollars. Aka...used for Jagerbombs 15 mins later.
Now. We cannot describe the beauty we experienced.
Picture this: Melbourne Australia. Skyline in distance. Giant stage. Thousands of people in neon. Jagerbomb in hand. Fistpumps. Bass shaking your mind, body and soul. Lights exploding everywhere from a pyramid near the likeliness of God.
Opening song. If you have seen First Encounters, remember the spaceship tune? Yes. They opened with this. We knew we were meant to be there.
After 4 hours of life changing music, lights, bass, never ending dancing and fistpumps. We were exhausted. 3 giant Canadian girls had the night of their life. Literally. Life Changing.
Now...remember how we mentioned Elvis?
Yes.
Yes we did. We loved this song.
After Daft's encore (which was unreal) they ended their show with...yes...Elvis - "I can't help falling in love with you". Claire's reaction "OHHHH MYYYYY GOODDDDD"
Kat's reaction "It's destiny". We embraced. And took a video. Which you will see eventually. Or not.
The night ended with the three of us spooning.
What a great day.
DECEMBER 14th, 2007 - We are alive. Barely.
Today we toured Melbourne and booked a trip along the great ocean road. We leave tomorrow morning for Torquay, a surfing town. We will be camping for the next few days and are looking to go to Tasmania for christmas.
Hope all is well. We are having the "Prime time of our lives" (daft punk quote)
Love
Kat, Kira and Claire.

siiiiiiccccckkkk. so jealous.
As someone who has seen them live, it truly is mind-blowing. I can't believe that you were able to do touristy things the next day - you truly are a stronger drinker than I am. Enjoy Melbourne and Taz!
did they do the thing where their suits were lit up with red neon lights during the encore?
yes. yes they did. and it was mindblowingly amazingly cool.
